Go Slow to Go Fast
Sometimes I feel like my mind resembles an overworked computer—too many tabs open, too many tasks running all at once. And just like with a computer, the solution is often a restart. Slowing down gives me the chance to reset and regain focus. I’ve noticed that rushing ahead in work only seems to create setbacks. Miscommunication or skipping steps forces me to backtrack, making things harder than they need to be. Maybe slowing down is the smarter way to move forward efficiently.
Self-Compassion
"Intensity is overrated. Consistency is underrated."
I've come to realize that sustainable growth isn’t about occasional bursts of intense effort but about showing up consistently. Regular, deliberate actions always seem to win over short-lived sprints, whether it’s in work or personal goals. It’s like how athletes build strength—not through sudden extremes but through steady progression. Maybe I need to remind myself that taking a long-term view isn’t just wise—it’s how I can avoid burnout and truly achieve the results I’m striving for.
Awareness and Mindfulness
Slowing down encourages reflection and focus. How often do we truly immerse ourselves in the moment—eating without scrolling on our phones or listening without distractions? A Zen story beautifully captures this lesson:
A student asked their master, “How can I attain enlightenment?”
The master replied, “When you eat, just eat; when you walk, just walk.”
The student said, “But I already do that. Isn’t it enough?”
The master smiled and explained, “No. When you eat, you think about walking. When you walk, you think about other things. Enlightenment is being mindful of everything you do.”
This story reminds us that mindfulness is about giving our full attention to the present. By focusing on one thing at a time, we cultivate clarity and gratitude for moments we might otherwise take for granted. Treasure each moment tegar!—you never know when it might be gone.
Falling in love feels like an intoxicating rush, but I’ve realized that slowing down can create something more meaningful. Those butterflies and dopamine highs, while magical, can blur my judgment and make me miss important signs of compatibility. By savoring the process, I give myself the chance to truly understand my partner and the dynamic we’re building. Taking it step by step fosters trust, clarity, and a solid foundation—letting me fully enjoy each moment without feeling like I need to race toward the future.
A Reminder to Myself
Take small, deliberate actions every day—this is something I need to remind myself constantly. Each little step adds up, even when the progress feels slow. I should celebrate those small wins and trust that they’re part of a bigger picture. Slowing down doesn’t mean I’m falling behind; it’s about being intentional and preparing myself for what’s ahead. It’s also about being fully present in the moment, focusing on the task at hand without rushing, so I can build something lasting and meaningful.
